I am such a sucker for a good wedding day love story. Tonja and Alex’s romantic Stillwater, Minnesota wedding day was no exception. They said “I do” on a rainy April day at the JX Venue overlooking the St. Croix river.
The Background
I first met Tonja and Alex when they booked me to take their engagement photos in Stillwater; and I absolutely loved their engagement photos. We had so much fun together capturing their love and vibing together. It was an honor to be asked to photograph their wedding day. Like many couples, they were impacted by the pandemic. But, Tonja and Alex handled every situation that was thrown their way with such grace.
The Details
Their wedding day was stunning. The JX Venue had the prettiest brick details with an industrial, yet modern, feel. Tonja and Alex opted out of having a bridal party, but they were both able to get ready with people near to their hearts. Tonja’s brother officiated their ceremony, which was such a touching addition. The rain cleared after their ceremony and gave way to a beautiful Spring day.
So we took advantage of the weather and captured some beautiful shots outside – including with the couple’s pride and joy, their puppy Benjamin; he was the life of the party. Tonja and Alex walked in holding hands as the new Mr. and Mrs. as an alternative to doing a grand march. In addition to a creative grand march, their personalities truly showed by having Dairy Queen Dilly Bars in lieu of a traditional wedding cake. How sweet is that!?
Above all, don’t be afraid to break the norms and create your own dream wedding day – no matter what is thrown your way. At the end of the day, what matters most is that you get to marry the love of your life.
With this in mind, is there any tradition you are doing away with for your big day? Drop them below in the comments!
