I am a huge fan of a classic wedding day exit. I’m talking sparklers, confetti, bubbles, streamers… you name it! Not only does the couple get to cherish the images of such a joyful time, the guests get to truly be a part of the moment. As a full-time intimate wedding and elopement photographer (and recent bride!), I have learned a ton of Wedding Day Tips & Tricks that need to be shared!

I’m going to keep this one short and sweet, so here we go!

3 Wedding Day Exit Tips & Tricks

1. FAUX EXIT

One of my favorite wedding “hacks” is encouraging my couples to do a faux exit. This is when your DJ pauses the dancing during your reception and makes an announcement for guests to go outside, to whatever location you’re having your exit at. You do your “exit”, get the cutest photos, and then go back inside to continue partying with your guests. Pretty cool, right?

Faux exits are a great option for many reasons – Not only does this option save you money because you’re not paying your photographer for extra coverage, but you are able to spend more quality time with your guests too. Plus, having a traditional exit can be stressful because you are celebrating, then frantically trying to pack your things, load your car, saying your goodbyes AND doing an exit all at once. In my opinion, a faux exit is the way to go!

2. SPARKLER EXIT TIP

One of my favorite wedding day exits as a photographer – SPARKLERS. If you are planning on having a sparker exit, this tip is a MUST KNOW for you and could save your entire exit. Before the day of your wedding, make sure you light at least one sparkler. Here’s why:

Believe it or not, it is quite common for sparklers to not light with a traditional lighter (or at all). This problem is very common and occurs more often than you would expect. In fact, I ran into this problem with the sparklers I purchased for my wedding too. Depending on the brand of your sparkler, they may need some extra “oomph”. I would suggest having more lighters than you anticipate (10 is a good place to start!), or better yet – having 1-2 adults with torches. You can thank me later 😏

3. TAKE YOUR TIME

I get it – you are hyped up on adrenaline and you are going to want to SPRINT through your exit. But, here’s my encouragement to you – soak it up! Go through your exit slowly and intentionally. Look around and soak up the love and joy surrounding you and your SPOUSE. And hey, don’t be afraid to go back through again – whether you want to dip in the middle for a romantic photo, or frolic through with the widest smiles… cherish that moment, babe.
