Lindsey and Tyler’s Northern Minnesota backyard wedding was already months ago and I am still obsessing over them + their day. From the very first time we hopped on a call together, I was hooked on their love story. Tyler once said he never saw himself getting married until he met Lindsey. But once he met Lindsey, everything changed. Do I have your attention (and tears) yet?! 🥹

Backyard Wedding

Lindsey and Tyler are two of the most outgoing, spunky, caring people I’ve ever met. The biggest thing that stood out to me about them and their day was how much intentionality went into every detail. A few years ago, they completed their dream home together. It was so special that they chose their home for their getting ready space and reception. But the ceremony itself took place at Lindsey’s parents’ house on a lake built by her dad. And actually, that’s where Lindsey and Tyler’s love story begins.

Lindsey and Tyler first met through mutual friends in 2012. Tyler took the opportunity to ask “100 questions” about the lake. From that day forward, Tyler always called her “pond girl”. Several years past when they reconnected on Facebook. Their first date was to At Home to help Tyler redecorate his house (#goals). 10 years after they first met, they said “I do” over the same lake that started it all.

The Party

Okay, let me tell you something. Lindsey, Tyler, and their crew know how to party. Once the knot was tied, it was time to get the party started. They had the most epic grand entrance that set the precedent for all grand entrances. Let’s just say it involved a good ole round of flippy cup and that the ladies WON. After the speeches, cake cutting, and first dances, I was able to sneak Lindsey and Tyler away for some sunset romantics. Their sweet pups even made an appearance 🥰

Lindsey and Tyler’s Northern Minnesota backyard wedding was such an honor to capture. There’s something so special about a couple that fits so perfectly together. It’s that time of year, friend! You know the one I’m talking about? Engagement session season!! As a full-time wedding and elopement photographer (and past bride), I know firsthand just how much excitement fills the air leading up to your engagement session. Two of the most commonly asked questions I get when a session is booked is, “What do we wear?!” and “Should we bring anything?” Well, I’m here to give you all the nitty-gritty details to make sure your engagement session goes out without a hitch. Here are 8 Must Have Items for Your Engagement Session.

Your Outfits:

1. Outfit #1

How you dress for your engagement session should be a reflection of you and your honey. Think of what you’re comfortable in, what feels like “ah, this is us.” If you’re looking for outfit tips, check out my Styling Tips for Your Engagement Session blog! Searching for even more inspo?! My Pinterest board has gotcha covered!

2. Outfit #2

Options, babe, options! The weather can change at the drop of a dime, or there could even be a wardrobe malfunction. The more prepared you are, the better. Double check with your photographer to see how many outfits are allowed for your particular session – and plan from there.

Onto the Practicals:

3. Lint Roller

I don’t know about you, but when I leave the house, I’m still finding fur from my pup on me. Lint rollers are great for not only pet hair, but also for getting rid of any leaves left from traipsing through a field. (I love adventuring with my couples!)

4. Hair Brush

Whether the wind is whipping on the day of your engagement session or not, having a hair brush always comes in clutch. In the event of wind, embrace it! You’ll be at peace knowing you can always brush your hair.

5. Hairspray

Even if you’re generally not a “hairspray person”, bring it! Smooth hair photographs really well; hairspray helps tame those pesky flyaways and wind-tousled hair!

6. Scissors

Never know when a scissors might come in handy! Pesky tags, hanger straps, etc.

7. Bug Spray

TRUST me on this one. Bug bites are the worst! ‘Nuff said.

8. Champagne!

I simply can’t end an engagement session without poppin’ champagne! Bring a bottle to end your session with a fun spray and a few sips. SO much fun!

Which of my 8 Must Have Items for Your Engagement Session would you have forgotten?! Send me a message over on Instagram (@morganelizabethphotos); I’d love to hear from you!

So, let me guess: you’re planning for your upcoming engagement session and have NO idea what to wear😅 I have been there. As a full-time wedding and couples photographer (and past bride), I know how overwhelming and daunting the decision can be. By the end of this blog, you’ll be feeling confident and ready to take some incredible engagement photos with your love. Alright, let’s get into my styling tips for your engagement session.

DRESS FOR COMFORT

This one might seem like a no-brainer but WOW does it make a difference. Wearing something that you feel comfortable in makes the world of difference. Even if you want to buy something new for your photos, try to “break it in” by wearing it a couple times and moving around in it. In my engagement sessions, I love for my couples to be able to move around – whether that’s running, going in for a dip, or twirling around.

THINK NEUTRALS

When pairing outfits with your honey, keep in mind that neutrals (or earth tones!) photograph really well. Especially if you really want to compliment that location of your photos, wearing those tones will help you stand out but not clash with the environment.

LET’S TALK PATTERNS

Fun fact: patterns are not the enemy. I love a good floral print as much as the next person. My biggest tip is to choose subtle patterns – and avoid clashing!

LAYERS, LAYERS, LAYERS

I love a good layering moment. Packing or wearing layers allows you to ✨spice up✨ your photos without having to do a ton of outfit changes.

Now that you are set with some styling tips for your engagement session, all there’s left to do is pop some bubbly and get ready for your session 🥂

As a full-time wedding photographer (and recent bride!), I know how many details go into planning your big day. Planning your wedding day is HUGE. Not only do you feel the pressure of finding the perfect wedding venue, booking your dream wedding photographer, and hashing out all the other little details, the logistics of your actual wedding day sometimes get brushed aside. But that’s where I come in! I’m letting you in on the 2 must-know getting ready tips to help your photos pop 💥 This one goes out to you, brides!

TIP #1

Believe it or not, the most overlooked part of a wedding day can often be what you are wearing.

I know, I know – what?! I’m not talking about your wedding dress that you’ve been dreaming of wearing. I am talking about what you are wearing while you are getting ready for your big day.

And even more specifically, what you are wearing underneath. That’s right, your BRA.

If your wedding dress is strapless, backless, or even a halter – proceed cautiously when it comes to choosing your bra. As if we didn’t already have enough reason to hate wearing bras… they leave marks or indents on the skin.

Unfortunately, it takes those marks quite a bit of time to disappear. The last thing you want is photos of you looking STUNNING in a dress that fits you like a glove, only to see indents of your bra straps or band.

My biggest suggestion to support the ‘ladies’ that morning? Opt for a bralette. Sometimes even a sports bra would work, as long as it zips in the front so you don’t have to pull it over your head. Which brings me to:

TIP #2

Now that we’ve taken care of what you’re wearing underneath while getting ready… what are you going to wear on top?!

Whether you and your girls are planning to wear matching robes or pajamas, make sure it’s not something you have to pull over your head. No matter how careful you are, your makeup or hair is bound to get messed up if you’re pulling a t-shirt over your head.

I am a huge fan of button-ups or even zip-ups for a wedding day. There are so many cute options out there that you won’t even miss wearing your comfy t-shirt. Even cuter!? Wear your soon-to-be HUBBY’S button-up. 🥰

There we have it; the 2 must-know getting ready tips. Looking for more wedding planning tips? Check out the blog HERE ✨ I gotchu!

Happy wedding planning, babe! 🤗

Oh my goodness, you’re ENGAGED! As you begin to tackle all of the fun tasks that come with wedding planning, you might find yourself wondering how to book your dream wedding photographer. As a full-time wedding photographer (and recent bride!), I know firsthand just how important it is to find the perfect photographer for you. So if you’re looking for a little bit of guidance, keep reading!

Do Your Research

Every photographer is a little bit different. From editing styles, to posing, and even how the level of involvement they would have leading up to your wedding day. Nail down what kind of tones you like (warm and moody, true to color, light and airy, etc.). Are you looking for a photographer that does more classic portraits, or a photographer who has a more “candid” approach? When it comes to your wedding day, the right photographer will want to be involved. Whether that means helping with a timeline or even offering other resources to assist with wedding planning, there is someone out there for you.

Meet Them!

Fun fact: most couples end up spending more time with their photographer than each other on their wedding day. Make sure you are comfortable and enjoy spending time with them. When meeting them, ask yourself if the conversation is forced or if it flows easily. Is it easy to laugh with them or is the conversation pretty dry?

Ask Questions (LOTS of questions)

When you meet with your potential photographer, come prepared! Some questions to help get you started are:

  • What happens if you can’t make it to my wedding?
  • How do you back-up your images?
  • How soon can we expect our gallery? When do we get sneak peeks?
  • Do we have printing rights?
  • How is the gallery delivered? (USB, online gallery, etc.)
  • Are there any hidden fees? (Travel fees, second-shooter fees, etc.)
  • What is your booking process?
  • Are engagement photos included with our package?

Moving Forward with Booking

Once you find a photographer that checks all of the boxes, you’re ready to move forward with BOOKING THEM! 🙌🏻 When moving forward with booking, make sure there is a contract in place. Not only does this protect your photographer, but it protects you if anything were to go wrong. Once you receive the contract, read it thoroughly to ensure you understand every little term and/or condition. Most photographers will include a non-refundable retainer fee or something of that nature to lock in the date.

There you go! Now that you know How to Book Your Dream Wedding Photographer, get after it! If you’re still searching for a wedding photographer to capture you love story, I’d love to connect with you! Fill out my inquiry form HERE Happy wedding planning, babe! 🥂
